Here are some excellent sources to check out to help you with your market research.

Government Sources

Strategis from Industry Canada. This web site contains a wealth of information for Canadian businesses. The site contains over 60,000 reports and nearly 1 million pages of searchable text. Strategis contains information on markets, industrial perspectives, technology and innovation, managing your business and so on. Strategis maintains a database of Canadian companies (registration is free) if you are looking for products, services or strategic alliances. Go to http://strategis.ic.gc.ca

Dept. of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT). This Canadian government site provides a wealth of background, market intelligence and export opportunities. Information is provided on doing business overseas, sector reports, trade opportunities, tips for exporting, getting export insurance and many other topics of interest to companies wishing to expand their businesses internationally. Fedworld is an integrated networked information system that provides access to over 20 different databases containing U.S. government information. Visit their site at http://www.fedworld.gov

Patents and Trademarks

A search of  Canadian Trademarks and Patents can be done through the Canadian Intellectual Properties Office.

Information on American patents and trade marks can be obtained from the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Statistical Data

Statistics Canada provides data on all aspects of the Canadian population, economy and industrial activity.

STAT-USA/Internet is operated by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce and contains a wealth of American economic and trade data.

United States Census Bureau has all the numbers on every aspect of the U.S. population and demographics.
